RB age 28 — entering/past typical value cliff

Chandler departed Minnesota in free agency and signed a league-minimum 1-year deal with the New Orleans Saints in mid-March 2026, walking into one of the most crowded RB rooms in the NFL: Travis Etienne, Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, Devin Neal, Audric Estime, and Evan Hull are all competing for touches ahead of him.

Chandler suffered a knee injury in Week 1 of 2025 that cost him nearly the entire season, finishing with only 17 carries for 47 yards. Coming off a serious knee injury at age 27 drastically reduces his ceiling and raises durability concerns.

Chandler sits 3rd or lower on the Saints depth chart behind Travis Etienne (4yr/$52M) and Alvin Kamara (still under contract through 2026), with Kendre Miller and Devin Neal also in the room. This is an even more congested backfield than the Vikings he left.

The room is crowded after Travis Etienne joined Kamara, Kendre Miller and Audric Estime. Even an injury cascade would likely promote younger, higher-upside backs ahead of a 28-year-old minimum signing.

Chandler was on IR with a knee injury in 2025, only returning to the active roster in late December. His durability on a minimum deal with a new team — where a re-injury likely ends his NFL career — is a genuine concern heading into camp.

Etienne and Kamara both carry significant injury histories; if two or more Saints RBs miss extended time, Chandler could be thrust into emergency starter touches — his only realistic path to dynasty relevance in 2026.

Chandler's elite straight-line speed (4.38) makes him a genuine special teams asset, which improves his odds of surviving final cuts and staying on the active roster in a role that keeps him fantasy-irrelevant but employed.
