FA · TE · Age 26
McRee went undrafted out of USC in the 2026 draft, was waived by Pittsburgh at final roster cuts in early September 2026 after a strong preseason (including a physical touchdown catch in the finale), and was retained on a practice-squad deal rather than hitting true free agency. The main catalysts to track are a TE injury ahead of him prompting a gameday elevation, or conversely a numbers crunch that gets him released outright before he ever sees a regular-season snap. This profile is a pure watch-list/deep-dynasty-taxi stash at best — sell any speculative shares in shallow or redraft-adjacent formats now, and only hold in devy/best-ball-style deep dynasty leagues where roster spots are free, with no real re-evaluation expected before mid-to-late 2026 at the earliest.
Waived at final roster cuts in early September 2026 before returning to a practice-squad deal; practice-squad status means no active-roster stats or accrual unless elevated on gameday.
Carries a lengthy injury resume into the league — a torn ACL in each knee (2019 left, 2023 right) plus a 2024 knee sprain — which scouts flagged as the primary reason he went undrafted.
Cleared waivers and was retained on a practice-squad deal rather than hitting the open market outright, keeping him in an NFL developmental pipeline with in-season elevation eligibility.
Flashed physical, load-bearing receiving ability in the preseason finale (a contested touchdown catch-and-run), the kind of tape that can prompt a gameday elevation if injuries hit the TE room ahead of him.
