Mahomes is rehabbing a torn ACL/LCL from December 2025 and, per recent camp reports, is still working back into full 11-on-11 reps with a 'ready by end of camp' target for Week 1; any setback would cloud the passing game and scoring opportunities Walker's expanded role depends on.

This is Walker's first season outside Seattle, and his career receiving profile (31 catches in 17 games in 2025, single-digit target share) is unproven at the expanded pass-catching role Bieniemy and Mahomes are building around him this offseason — camp buzz hasn't yet been tested in live games.

KC spent a Round 5 pick on RB Emmett Johnson; unlikely to threaten Walker's lead role given the record contract, but he's a cheap young body who could siphon change-of-pace or passing-down snaps if Walker's transition to a 3-down role is slow.

Walker signed the largest running-back free-agent contract in NFL history (three years, roughly $45M) to be Kansas City's unquestioned RB1, with the only other backfield names (Terion Stewart, Jaydn Ott) being camp-depth pieces — as clean a volume path as a dynasty back can have.
