Donovan Edwards

Edwards is 4th on the RotoWire depth chart behind De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Ollie Gordon. With Achane posting a career-high 1,838 yards from scrimmage and 12 TDs on 305 touches, Edwards has virtually no path to meaningful volume.

Edwards entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Jets in 2025 and spent the season on Washington's practice squad without being elevated. His YPC declined from 7.1 in 2022 to 4.4 over 2023-24 at Michigan, signaling production regression.

Edwards spent all of 2025 on Washington's practice squad without ever being elevated to game action, and was only signed to Miami's active roster for Week 18 as a lottery ticket depth piece.

Achane just signed a 4yr/$64M extension and is explicitly the player Hafley/Sullivan are building the offense around — Miami publicly refused to trade him. The lead role is locked up for years, capping Edwards' realistic ceiling.

Achane missed Week 18 with a shoulder injury believed to be minor. If Achane's injury lingers into 2026 or recurs, Edwards could vault up the depth chart behind Wright as an injury backup/committee partner.

If Achane suffers injury or the Dolphins deploy a committee approach, Edwards could quickly ascend into a three-down role with significant upside in Miami's pass-heavy system.

Achane led all RBs in receiving yards and TDs last season in Miami's pass-heavy scheme. Edwards has receiving chops from college (86 receptions in 4 years at Michigan), and could carve PPR value in a committee or relief role.

Miami's franchise reset mode creates above-average roster turnover odds compared to a stable contender. If Wright or Gordon are moved or disappoint in 2026, Edwards could organically climb the depth chart without requiring a trade or draft investment.

Miami invested zero 2026 draft capital at running back, spending all picks on WRs and TEs. The backfield room won't be further crowded by draftees, marginally improving the survival odds of existing incumbents including Edwards.

New HC Jeff Hafley has stated a preference for a physical, committee-oriented run game with multiple RB options. If Edwards' pass-catching ability from his Michigan days appeals to Hafley's staff, a niche third-down role is a long-shot but legitimate path.
