Edwards cleared waivers after Miami's August 29, 2026 roster cuts and remains with the organization only on the practice squad, with no 53-man roster spot or contractual security.

The Miami backfield already runs five deep behind Edwards' practice-squad standing — De'Von Achane as the clear lead back, Ollie Gordon and Jaylen Wright as established rotational pieces, and Le'Veon Moss and Alexander Mattison as veteran depth — leaving essentially no runway to touches even on an emergency call-up.

As the practice-squad running back most familiar with Miami's scheme, Edwards would be a first-look elevation candidate if injuries thin the Achane-Gordon-Wright-Moss-Mattison group.

Miami did not use 2026 draft capital on a running back, so the depth chart in front of Edwards is not being reinforced by incoming rookies, keeping a path open if multiple backs ahead of him are lost to injury.
